Some animals have good reasons for staying awake at night and sleeping during the day. Animals who are most awake at night are nocturnal. This may sound tiring, but being nocturanal can actually be helpful in many ways. For example, it's a good way to avoid predators that hunt only during the day. Also, nocturnal animals can use the dark of night to sneak up on their prey. Finally, temperatures are cooler at night. So, animals that live in hot climates, like deserts, are usually nocturnal. This way they can move around without overheating.
