Two Advantages of RFID readers:

• No line-of-sight contact is necessary

• Very Cheap to use for all aspects of life

• -Very fast read rate

• is easy to program and install

Two disadvantages of RFID readers:

• requires special bar code readers

• More expensive than barcode

• very slow data entry and reading data

• Easy to jam or interrupt

Magnetic ink character recognition / reader (MICR) is commonly used :

• Used to scan images printed with laser printer

• Scanning products at supermarket counter

• used for tracking hospital devices along with their bar code

• read characters printed in a special ink used mostly in cheques

Two Advantages of using MICR reader (Direct Data entry):

• Greater security since the printed characters cannot be altered

• Very Cheap

• Works from distance

• None

Optical mark recognition readers (OMR) is mostly used :

• is used in credit card and debit cards

• Used to read marks on questionnaires, multiple-choice examination papers

• used in reading data from bank cheques by scanning

• Used to track books at library

Two advantages of OMR are:

• More accurate without typing

• Retailers have no access to the customer credit/debit card information

• Very fast way of inputting the results of a survey

• very cheap device to purchase

Two disadvantages of Optical mark recognition (OMR) reader (Direct Data entry) are:

• Limited amount of characters can be read.

• The forms need to be designed carefully

• Can be problems if the forms haven’t been filled in correctly

• More expensive than using a keyboard to type manual data.
