A summary retells the beginning, middle, and end of a story. Which of the following is the best summary of the story?

In the 1960s, schools were still segregated, so white and African American students were forced to go to different restaurants, theaters, schools, and many other places. They even had to drink from separate water fountains.

Ruby Bridges went to a school with white students, and many people were very angry about that. One day, Ms. Henry saw Ruby talking to the crowd outside. She wondered why Ruby decided to talk to the crowd that day. However, Ruby explained that she was not talking to them. Instead, she was praying for them to change their ways. She prayed twice a day for them, and that day she had forgotten to pray for them in the morning, so she did it when she got to school.

Every day, for weeks that turned into months, Ruby experienced that kind of school day. She walked to the Frantz School surrounded by marshals. Wearing a clean dress and a bow in her hair and carrying her lunch pail, Ruby walked slowly for the first few blocks. As Ruby approached the school, she saw a crowd of people marching up and down the street. Men and women and children shouted at her. They pushed toward her.

Ruby Bridges was born when white and African American students had to go to separate and unequal schools. However, when the law changed, a judge said Ruby could go to a school with white students. Many people were very angry about that and shouted and threatened her as she entered the school each day for months. She never gave up and she kept going to school.
