Reading the passage before you read the question that you are about to answer is a good idea

Use pronouns rather than proper nouns in your comprehension answer because...

• It looks slicker.

• Proper nouns are ugly

• It makes our teeth cleaner

• It saves time, writing less.

When you scan the questions and see 'in your own words' in the question what do you do to those words to remind you to get more marks by using your own words?

• Do a little dance

• Phone a friend

• Give up and go home

• Highlight or underline 'in your own words' wherever it appears as a safety strategy, making it a habitual first step.

Read the question read the relevant paragraph and write the answer, then read the next question and repeat the process. Why is this a good idea?

• It keeps you alert while reading the relevant paragraph and you will usually find the answers more easily

• This will confuse your brain and enable you to get lower marks.

• it will make the examiner happy to see you doing this.

• It helps you to get a Helpful Citizen award.

Always answer Text 3 including the summary first before you answer the questions for Texts 1 and 2. Why do this?

• You like large numbers such as 3 more than 1.

• You are an extinct dinosaur.

• It means you make sure you always finish the summary which is high scoring

• Your ears are ugly.

Students who want to do well in English exams but do not read regularly will benefit from one of the following because they boost their vocabulary by doing so.

• Watching Netflix

• Reading a full practice comprehension passage regularly and looking up words they do not know. or reading current affairs daily.

• Eating Chocolate fudge cake for breakfast and snack break.

• Read aloud a Mother Tongue book. then doing two cartwheels in an anti-clockwise manner.

Buy a practice comprehension book with answers in the back and do a couple of questions most study evenings looking up the answers immediately afterwards. you do this because...

• Looking up the answers is cheating and that is fun.

• Cheating is good for your soul

• If you do it and your parents do not catch you, it proves you are cunning.

• When you study the correct answer your brain occasionally has an 'Ahahaaa' moment and you develop Comprehension skills.

Treat Comprehension as a fun puzzle that expands your brain power. Why should we do this consciously before we start any comprehension test and practice?

• This destresses us a little and energizes our confidence and performance positively.

• It proves how good we are at tricking our brain

• It means we are smiling while we are completing the answers.

• We should do this otherwise we will score higher in the test and that would make other students sad. We are too kind to do that.
