What is an inert gas?

• Inert gas reacts chemically with the molten weld puddle, adding needed oxygen to the environment

• Inert gas is a form of oxygen, which helps the puddle cool down

• Inert gas does not react chemically with the molten weld puddle, allowing the puddle to cool in an oxygen-free atmosphere.

• Inert gas is another word for carbon dioxide

What does an autogenous weld mean?

• The weld has the addition of filler metal
