Mixture

• Two or more substances put together or combined

• A change of state: liquid changes in to a solid from cooling down

• A substance that is dissolved in a solvent to form a solution.

• 100 degrees Celsius

Substance

• A pure material that is not a mixture
• It dissolves thousands of substances
• A state of matter. It does not have a fixed shape or volume. It will expand to fill its container completely. Often invisible.
• a very small piece or part

Matter

• Anything that has mass and takes up space. Can be in a solid, liquid or gas state.
• A change of state: solid changes in to a gas from heating up, but skips being a liquid
• A measure of how much space an object takes up. Measured in millilitres (ml) or litres (L).
• A state of matter. It has a fixed shape and volume.

Mass

• A measure of how much weight an object has. Measured in grams (g) or kilograms (kg).
• A change of state: solid changes in to a liquid from heating up
• 0 degrees Celsius
• A pure material that is not a mixture

Volume

• A measure of how much space an object takes up. Measured in millilitres (ml) or litres (L).
• Anything that has mass and takes up space. Can be in a solid, liquid or gas state.
• When something gains heat energy and increases its temperature
• A substance that is dissolved in a solvent to form a solution.

Solid

• A state of matter. It has a fixed shape and volume.
• The ability to make things happen. Energy can take many forms such as light and heat

Liquid

Solution

Dissolve

• The process of a substance (solute) breaking into invisibly small particles (atoms) to mix evenly with a solvent.
• A mixture of one or more substances (solutes) that dissolves in solvent.
• a characteritic that desribes as substance such as color, size, shape and texture
• A state of matter. It has a fixed volume, but its shape can change to fit its container.
