If a verb ends with W, X or Y just add –ing.

If a verb ends with "ie"...

• Just add -ing.

• Take off the "e" and add –ing.

• Double the last letter and add –ing.

• Change ie to "y" and add –ing.

If a verb ends with just one "e"...

• Take off the e and add –ing.

• Just add –ing.

• Change "ie" to y and add –ing.

• Double the last letter and add –ing.

Rule #4

If a verb ends with CVC word.

CVC (consonant–vowel–consonant).

• If a verb has stress on the beginning of the word, we add –ing.

• Double the last letter and add –ing.

• If a verb does not fit into these rules #1 #2 #3 #4 #5 just add –ing.

• Just add –ing.

Rule #5 Stress rule. (Stress is when we say part of the word stronger than the rest).

If a verb has stress on the beginning of the word...

• Take off the "e" and add –ing.

• Double the last letter and add –ing.

• We add –ing.
