MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTION

Read the following selection and answer the question that follows.

Rainbows

1. After a soothing rain covers the ground, a beautiful, elegant rainbow may be spotted in the sky. Many cultures have various beliefs about where the rainbow comes originated. The Ojibwe Indian tribe has an interesting myth about this natural phenomenon. The Ojibwe tribe believes that a spirit named Nanabozho created the first rainbow.

2. The myth states that Nanabozho lived beside a waterfall and a meadow of white flowers. He decided the flowers were a boring color and decided to paint them many different colors. Overhead, two bluebirds were playing games and chasing each other across the meadow. As the birds were playing, the accidentally dipped their wings into the paint Nanabozho was using. He wasn't happy that the birds were covered from head-to-toe in paint of all colors. Nanabozho began to wave his arms and shoo the birds away. As the birds chased each other through the midst of the waterfall, paint streaks began to radiantly sparkle through the mist. As they raced back and forth, the colors began to shine brilliantly in the sunlight. Nanabozho was thrilled when he realized the brilliant colors were spilling over his meadow. He was so delighted that he left the rainbow to shine in the mist from that day forward.

The Ojibwe tribe believed the rainbow originated because-

Two mischievous birds interrupted a spirit while he was painting flowers.

Several birds took a bath in a rainbow near Nanabozho's house.

Nanabozho spilled paint all over the sky.

This is not a true story.

Read the poem below and answer the question that follows.

Nervous Nelly

Today was Nelly's first day on the squad.

The cheer captain gave her a nod.

She was feeling a little tearful.

You could describe it as even fearful.

5 Would Nelly forget her steps?

She couldn't even remember the reps.

Leg kicks? Arm twirls? Yells?

Nelly headed for formation.

She was at the correct location.

10 All went so well.

She even remembered to yell!

Read this line from the second stanza:

Leg kicks? Arm twirls? Yells?

The repetition in this line emphasizes the idea that Nelly-

Knows exactly what she is doing

believes she has too many choices

thinks working hard is too difficult

has forgotten the steps to her routine
