What is El Nino?

• A mysteriously warm area of water in the Pacific that can effect weather patterns and cause unseasonably warm weather with more frequent, powerful storms.

• A part of the ocean that is losing water everyday.

• The cause of thunderstorms in the rain forests.

What causes hurricanes and typhoons?

• When the water in the Earth mixes with the clouds to create energy.

• When areas of the ocean soak up a tremendous amount of heat from the sun. This causes the water vapor to rise and releases energy causing rain and winds. The air gets spun by the rotation of the Earth.

• When the North Pole and the South Pole get too warm, they create waves in the ocean.

What is lightning?

• Percy and his enemies are fighting.

• The clouds in the sky are running into each other.

Why is a tree a bad place to be in a lightning storm?

• Because the tree is afraid of lightning.

• Since lightning strikes the highest point off the ground, a tree is the perfect target.

• Because the tree will not absorb the lightning, so it might hit you.

What causes thunder?

• The sound of clouds running into each other.

• The gravitational pull keeps making it move.

• Jupiter has a fast rotation of only 10 hours that keeps the tornado moving.

• There are too many clouds on Jupiter.

How can you create your own tornado?

• Create waves in your bathtub.

• Get a liter bottle and fill it with water, but let some of the air out and swirl the bottle as the water is draining.

• Wave your arms around in the air until the air moves in circles.
