Welcome to Advanced English 10!

When I enter the English 10 classroom, I should

• Sit on a table and talk to my friends.

• Wander around the room until the bell rings.

• Do 50 jumping jacks.

• Read the board and begin working on the day's bell work.

If I need to use the restroom, the BEST option is to

• use the bathroom between class periods, or ask Mrs. Hoyt when she is NOT actively teaching

• walk into class, put my backpack on my desk, visit with my friends, then leave to use the bathroom right before the 2nd bell rings

• raise my hand while Mrs. Hoyt is teaching the class and ask to use the bathroom

• remain severely dehydrated so I do not need to use the bathroom

When in class, my cell phone should be

• upside down on my desk

• in the signal-blocking bag and OUT OF SIGHT

• in my hand so I can text my friends or call my mom

• in my pocket or backpack

It is ok to eat in this class if

• it is medically necessary

• I'm hungry

• I bought something in the commons before class and I want to eat it before it gets cold

• I'm bored

Drinks in closed containers are allowed in the classroom

If I need to email Mrs. Hoyt, I should begin my message with

• nothing; I should just type the message and end with TTYL :)

When I am absent from class, I should

• look in the "absent" bin to see what assignments I am missing and ask Mrs. Hoyt if I have any questions

• ask my friends what I missed and copy their answers for any missing homework

• nothing; when assignments are entered as missing then I will worry about it

• nothing; I'm sure no learning occurs in my absence

If I am absent for a quiz or test, I should

• yell at Mrs. Hoyt when she enters my quiz as missing in Infinite Campus

• wait until the end of the semester and then ask Mrs. Hoyt if I can still take the quiz

• wait for Mrs. Hoyt to tell me I need to take the quiz

• talk to Mrs. Hoyt to schedule a time to take the quiz

The assignment we were given today, which is due on Friday, is

• to buy a package of highlighters and three very sharp pencils

• to read a 150 page book of our choice and write a 5-paragraph essay

• to bring back our signed syllabus

• nothing; we have no assignments due until next week

If I make a threat against others or myself in my journal writing, Mrs. Hoyt is required to

• laugh out loud

• report it to the administration and/or counselor

• It doesn't matter; Mrs. Hoyt doesn't actually read the journals.
