Dante had been acting in plays since he could speak. He had practices every night, and they were beginning to interfere with his life. Last Friday, his whole family had gone to a new restaurant without him, and this Friday was his best friend’s birthday party. The story of Rosa Parks is a well-known one, but few people are familiar with Ms. Parksʼ full history. She was not a woman who simply “didnʼt want to move” as we were often told in elementary school. In fact, she had a long history of activism with the NAACP and the Votersʼ League in the long fight for civil rights. Parks spent many years working with a network of African Americans, staging peaceful protests around Birmingham, Alabama. Regardless, her act of refusing to give up her seat on the bus on December 1, 1955 marked a powerful moment when a single woman refused to bow to the racism that surrounded her.

The raging wildfire couldn’t be stopped. No matter how much water the aerial firefighters doused on it from the skies, the lines of fire retardant the firefighters placed, or how hard they worked each day, the firefighters just couldn’t put the fire out. It was blazing hot and it seemed as though there was no end in sight.

Ashley's mom told her that she wasn’t going to help her keep her room clean anymore, since she always messed it up again anyways. Instead of putting her clothes away for her, her mom piled them up outside the door. Ashley was annoyed that her mom wasn’t helping her anymore, and she decided to not clean her room until it drove her mom SO crazy that she would come clean it herself.
