Nick is determined to create the new word frindle. Mrs. Granger fights him to the end. However, Nick wins the war when frindle is put into the dictionary and he gets rich. He gloats by sending Mrs. Granger a pen for Christmas.

In fifth grade, Nick meets his match in Mrs. Granger. Nick accidentally starts a war with her by creating the word frindle. Mrs. Granger is determined to stop the words use. This was continues until the word travels across the country and Nick gets a trust fund (from money earned on frindle products) and eventually frindle is put into the dictionary. Mrs. Granger then lets Nick know she was rooting for him all along, and Nick gives Mrs. Granger gifts forever.

In fifth grade, Nick meets his match in Mrs. Granger. Nick is used to getting out of homework, he is famous for it. He tries this on Mrs. Granger and ends up with extra homework. He is determind not to let this happen again. Nick now gets his big idea. He is going to crate the frindle to replace pen. He gets everyone in his group, his class, his school, and his toen to go along with it. Frindle becomes famous and then ends up in the dictionary.

Nick doesn't like his new teacher. He gets back at her for giving him extra homework by creating the word frindle. She is furious and fights him and the others students by giving them detention. Nick will not give up, not will Mrs. Granger. Nicks gets kids and other adults to use the word. Mrs. Granger gets the principal to visit Nick's house. Nick even causes problems in the school picture by having everyone say frindle instead of cheese and hold up a pen. Nick finally gets his word in the dictionary.
