MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTION

Rate this Paragraph:
Although it is important to nurture the youths of our country, access to soft drinks and sports drinks can reduce the daily intake of healthy fruits and water and increase. In 2019, the UN NGS recommended cafeterias to not have a preference in their food item of production even if it is more cost effective and increases productivity. Additionally, Loop News reported that the MOH in Trinidad and Tobago banned the sale of all soft and sports drink in order to increase the daily intake of water in secondary school students. According to Vereecken, Pedersen & Ojala, the consumption of fruits and vegetables is the main way to track a healthy diet.

MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTION

Rate this Paragraph:
Cafeterias must follow specific guidelines to ensure that the development of the younger generation isn't hindered due to poor nutrition. These guidelines are mostly in relation to what cafeterias shouldn't do when procuring their food supply. Cafeterias should not have preference to any one food group no matter the ease of production of said food group (UN NGS, 2019). Furthermore, as Stated on Loop News (2017), the decision of the Ministry of Health, in Trinidad and Tobago, to ban the selling of "soft and sport" drinks in schools as of April 2017 show that these guidelines are not exempt to change as research on health is further developed. Lastly, the availability and consumption of fruits and vegetables is the main way of tracking healthy eating as stated by Vereecken, Pederson and Ojala (2015). These are all to show that the guidelines put in place for cafeterias dictate the options of food which are present in your cafeteria.

Something all the sources of information in the paragraph agrees on is that the components of the meals that students consume are of the utmost importance for their health. While schools have no control over what the students consume outside of the school, they (the school) wants to ensure that the food they offer to their students in the cafeteria are well balanced and nutritionally beneficial to their health (UN NGS, 2019). What played a major role in backtracking what the school set out to accomplish was the consumption of sport and carbonated drinks, so the Ministry of Health (MOH) responded by forbidding the sale of sport and carbonated beverages in an attempt to increase the daily water intake of the students (Loop News, 2017). Furthermore, a beneficial step in the school’s plan to supply healthy meals to students is by offering the option of fruits and vegetables in the cafeteria to implement in their daily consumption (Ojala, 2015).

Rate this Paragraph:
In 2017, the MOH of Trinidad and Tobago banned the sale of “sport and soft” drinks in schools in order to advocate for students to increase their daily water intake (Loop news, 2017). Further to this, Vereecken, Pedersen & Ojala (2015) argue that the regular consumption of fruits and vegetables is synonymous with healthy eating, and should therefore be made available for consumption especially in the school system. These measures harmonize well with the guidelines put forth by the United Nations (2019) in their nutritional guidelines and standards for schools, where they explicitly state that all food groups should be included in a school’s cafeteria, regardless of their ease of production or profitability. The current study will examine the items available to students.
