Day 6- Where the Mountain Meets the Moon

Minli “had always thought it would be thrilling but scary to meet a dragon”. Why?

• Dragons kidnap you and take you away from your family forever

• She heard dragons eat people and super mean to you

• Her father's stories made them seem "so wise and powerful and grand

• Her mother always told her about how much fun dragons are

“You know where Never-Ending Mountain is?” the dragon asked. “I thought to see the Old Man of the Moon was impossible. You must be very wise to know how to find him.” “Not really,” Minli said. “I got the directions from a goldfish.”

Does it surprise you that the dragon thinks seeing the Old Man of the Moon is “impossible”? Why or why not?

• Yes, because everyone can go see the Old Man of the Moon

• No, because he is impossible to reach him since many have not

Consider these two lines:

“This is magnificent – the dragon is almost alive!” (p. 51)

· “As a painting, it is finished…” (p. 53)

How might this be a moment of foreshadowing?

• They are standing in a dark spot with shadows

• Adding the eyes will make it come alive

• This moment is not foreshadowing

• Adding the last missing ingredient will put him back to sleep
