A rainforest is a type of forest with a warm climate, tall trees, leafy plants, and lots of rain. Rainforests are found on every continent except Antarctica. The Amazon Rainforest is in South America. It is the world’s largest rainforest, covering more than two million square miles of land. The top branches and leaves of a rainforest are called the canopy. The Amazon Rainforest canopy is so thick it blocks sunlight from reaching the forest floor. Many rainforests also have rivers and streams. The Amazon River is one of the longest rivers on Earth. It runs through the northern part of the Amazon rainforest.
