PHENOMENOLOGY

Also known as the scientific attitude, this is a mindset which assumes that in order to understand something, it has to abide by principles of presupposition or preconceived ideas and looks at reality as things that are fragmented, partial, fixed and clear.

This is known as “bracketing” or suspending our assumptions and preconceived notions to be faithful to the original experience.

In the Phenomenological Method by Edmund Husserl, this is when we reduce the experience to its essence of in the “transcendental sphere” –to see things as they really are.

In the Phenomenological Method by Gabriel Marcel, this form of reflection looks at the experience as an object as a “problem”, detached from the self -we observe the object outside of the self.
