What is cyberbullying?

• Cyberbullying is when you are being physically bullied in school or other places.

• Cyberbullying is any bullying that takes place "virtually or digitally" and happens repeatedly.

• Cyberbullying is when you make new friends online who you don't know in person.

• Cyberbullying is when you get just one mean message online.

How can cyberbullying affect someone?

• It can make them sad, hurt, and overwhelmed.

• It can make them happy, excited, and ready to go.

• It can make them educated, smiling, and positive.

• It can make them bright, feel safe, and popular.

What is one way someone can be cyberbullied? This can be a platform (example PS5/yelling), what someone says, etc.

What is an upstander?

• Someone who sees bullying happening and does nothing to prevent it.

• Someone who sees or hears about someone being bullied and they speak up, do their best to help, and support the victim.

• Someone who is very confident and doesn't mind standing up to talk to others.

• Someone who does nothing about anything and ignores it.

What is a bystander?

• Someone who knows about or sees bullying happening to someone else and does nothing to prevent or stop it. They may also film it and show it to others.

• Someone who is very supportive and stands by the victims side when needed.

• Someone who sees or hears about someone being bullied, they speak up and do their best to help, protect, and support the victim.

• Someone who goes to tell a teacher right away.

You see a person being ‘body-shamed’ on Facebook. You don't know this person and there are a lot of people joining in with hurtful comments. Do you:

• Join in

• Share it with your friends if it is funny

• Report it and speak out with positive comments

• You can like it but don't leave a negative comment

Someone at school films a video of someone fighting at school. They send the video around school and you receive it. Do you:

• Laugh and pass it on

• Tell someone - a teacher or parent

• You can like it but don't pass it on

• Write a funny comment

What should you do if you are being cyberbullied?

• Delete the messages

• Don't talk to an adult about it

• Write back straight away and defend yourself

• Save the messages and block or report the bully

How is receiving an insult online different to in real life?

• It isn't any different

• People often find it easier to insult others online

• People often find it easier to insult others offline or in person

• Comments hurt more when heard online

So what would happen if the internet became a place where only positive comments were made? How would this change how people think of themselves?
