What is the purpose of the text-to-text comparison in the following writing example?
In both The Red Badge of Courage and Pink and Say the main characters are children who are volunteering to fight in the Civil War. Even though these books were written almost 100 years apart they both explain what physical and emotional experiences young soldiers would have gone through as a result of the Civil War. While The Red Badge of Courage focuses on the thoughts and actions of one main character, Pink and Say focuses on two main characters which does make a difference for the reader. Both of these books can help a student know what someone close to their age might have experienced in the past.
The comparison makes it confusing to know which book is being talked about so the student is more likely to go back and read the book.
The comparisons show that the reader can find two books that are alike but they don't understand why that is important.
The comparisons show that the reader was able to find both similarities and differences between two texts in order to show what he or she understood about the work.
The comparison is used in order to show that the reader understands the similarities between the two texts and why they matter.
