Theme

What is theme?

• the main idea, what the story is mostly about

• the big idea, the lesson or moral of the story

• when and where the story takes place

Once there was a young boy and an old man. The young boy laughed at the tired, slow old man. Then the young boy needed to interview a veteran for a school project. The old man was very helpful and the boy got an A+ on his paper. The boy felt bad about laughing earlier. 

• don't look a gift horse in the mouth

• slow and steady win the race

• respect your elders

Long ago, a beautiful princess had all beautiful, expensive dresses. She bragged about them all the time. The other maidens got so tired of hearing about it and they stopped being friends with her.

• don't talk to strangers

• don't go around bragging to others

• eat your vegtables

 The girls were coloring when Mike wanted to join along. One girl moved the crayons closer to them. The other girl proceeded to take the other crayon boxes. Mike had no crayons to use. One girl remarked, "These crayons are ours. Find your own."

• being greedy is never nice

• it is okay to be mean to others while you are coloring

• you should keep your own things to yourself
