The speaking test lasts about

In the part 1 you will be asked questions on

• personal topics

• academic subjects

• topics in the news

In Part 2 of the test you will

• choose your own topic to talk about

• choose between 2 topics you are given to talk about

• be given 1 topic to talk about

In part 2, you will have

• no time to prepare

• 30 seconds to prepare

• 60 seconds to prepare

You will then talk for a maximum of

• 1 minute

• 2 minutes

• 3 minutes

• 4 minutes

In the part 3 of the test you will

• further discuss the topic from part 2

• discuss your reasons for taking IELTS

• discuss your plans and ambitions

The speaking test is recorded

• so you can have a copy

• because it is always marked twice

• in case it needs to be re-marked
