What effect does a low viewpoint (looking up) have?

What is specular reflection?

• unnaturally bright lighting to blow out most or all harsh shadows in an image. 

• light bouncing off rough surfaces that tend to reflect light in all directions (gives softer light) 

• light reflected from smooth surfaces at a definite angle (gives harder light) 

• backlighting of the subject. This effect usually hides details, causes a stronger contrast between light and dark, creates silhouettes and emphasizes lines and shapes.

What is the effect of rim lighting?

• illuminates the subject in the foreground as there are no shadows

• hides the subject's features in shadow. 

  Creates a dramatic and mysterious effect. 

• Looks clean, contemporary, bright

• gives soft diffused light and less shadow

The effect of using a light meter?

• Allows the photographer to measure the incident light to work out the correct shutter speed and aperture for a more accurate exposure. 

• Reduces the amount of light entering the camera so that a long exposure could be carried out without overexposing the image

• Prevents the camera being moved by the shutter button being pressed as this may cause camera shake and affect the sharpness of the stationary objects.
