What is Child Find?

• You count all the children with IEPs and related services for funding.

• Policies and procedures that ensure all children with exceptionalities in need of special education services are identified, located and evaluated.

• You tell parents you suspect their child has a medical diagnosis and they need to find a doctor to diagnose them.

What do you if a parent suspects their child has a disability?

• Tell the parent that you don't have any concerns.

• Ignore the parent because you are afraid you will have to complete a SIT referral.

• Share the parents concerns with the school psychologist and principal.

• Tell the parent that you don't have concerns, but they should take their child to see a private psychologist.

Can the school district refuse to complete an initial evaluation for special education?

• Yes. The school district may refuse to conduct an evaluation that has been requested by parents or adult students, but it must provide the parents with Prior Written Notice of the refusal and the reasons for the refusal​.

• No. The school district must complete an initial evaluation within 60 school days.

A student has daily behavior outbursts. What should you do?

• Send the parent a daily email to document behavior incidents.

• Suggest the parents take the child to the doctor ASAP.

• Refer to the student intervention team after discussing behavior concerns with parents verbally.

• Don't do anything. They'll mature over the summer.

If a student is making some progress, then they do not need a special education evaluation. Is this true? Please explain your answer.
