Research Terminology

The reference to the author(s) of intellectual work, for the purpose of acknowledgement (among other things).

A specific statement, that can be tested by scientific research. The statement will be accepted or rejected (proven true/false).

A summary of the whole study, presented at the beginning of the research paper.

The entire group that you want to draw conclusions about.

The specific group that you will collect data from (measure).

The results of the study are "generalizable".

What does it actually mean?

A study where neither the subject nor the researcher will know which treatment the subject is receiving. In many cases preferable to a single-blind study, since the researcher cannot affect the results by treating a control subject differently.

Our brain can convince our body that a fake treatment is a real thing. In scientific research, we intend to test if the substance or treatment has "real therapeutic value" or if our brain is just convincing our body to have the expected reaction.
