Paraphrasing/CER

Paraphrasing means to

• Copy the original text

• Write your own answer by reorganizing the original text

• Write your own answer by finding synonyms and creating unique phrases.

• Jumping out of an airplane

When paraphrasing original text the writer should

• Change the sentence structure

• Use the original words from the original text

• Compare the paraphrase to the original text

• Use antonyms in the paraphrase

When analyzing a graph or table it is important to ask

• Who the author is

• What is happening or what happened

• What color is it

By analyzing a graph or table you can identify

Justification means to

C.E.R. means to

• write a claim, evidence, recall statement for the evidence

• write a critique, evaluate, reasoning statement for the question

• write a claim, evidence, reading statement for the question

• write a claim, evidence and reasoning explanation that address the question

A written claim

• is several sentenances written by a scientist to explain the data

• is a single statement that answers the question

• is the justification for the evidence

• is a question

Evidence is

• found at a crime scene

• questions the scientist still has

• (numerical) proof from data gathered that supports the claim

• answers the question

Reasoning is

• a scientist's opinion about the data

• a hypothetical situation

• the scientific principle that links the evidence to the claim

• the answer to the question
