Idioms part 1

"I have butterflies in my stomach" means...

• Butterflies are my favorite.

• I'm nervous.

"At the drop of a hat" means...

• Do something instantly.  Act quickly without delay or planning. 

• I dropped my hat.

"Beat around the bush" means...

• Talk about something but never get to the point.

• To trim shrubbery.

"Couch potato" means...

• I like to eat my potatoes on the sofa.

• You're lazy.

"A dime a dozen" means...

• The cost of a dozen items.

• They are common, inexpensive, and you can get them anywhere. 

"I'm all ears" means...

• Listening intently or waiting to hear what you have to say. 

• I have really big ears.

"I'm all thumbs" means...

• My thumbs are big.

• To be clumsy or awkward—especially with your hands

"Barking up the wrong tree" means...

• You are looking in the wrong place or asking the wrong person

• Making loud noises.

"Don't add insult to injury" means...

• Don’t mock with your words and make someone feel worse than he already does. 

• Take someone to the doctor.

"You're a basket case" means...

• A person who carries a basket.

• Can’t do anything because they are stressed out or pankicked—can’t think.
