Are you ready for the 'real' world?

If you had to make a meal, what would you do?

• I'd cook fish fingers. They’re easy.

• I'd look for a recipe, buy the ingredients and cook them.

• I'd get a takeaway or order something online.

Imagine you had to do the shopping for a week. What would you do?

• I’d find a cheap shop and buy crisps, cola and sweets.

• I’d go to the nearest supermarket and buy lots of stuff like frozen pizza and apples.

• I’d make a shopping list, go to shops that have good value and buy only what I need.

What chores do you do at home?

• I do some chores, e.g. I tidy up, set the table, etc. But I don’t know how to use the washing machine and I hate using the vacuum cleaner.

• I don’t do chores much at all. That’s for parents, brothers and sisters.

• I use the dishwasher, the vacuum cleaner, and the washing machine. Sometimes I iron my shirts.

Do you earn your own money?

• Sometimes I earn money by helping somewhere, but I don’t earn a lot.

• Yes, I have a part-time job and I can buy my own stuff.

• No. When I need money, I ask mum or dad, or my grandparents.

Do you manage your money?

• I budget – I plan how much I can spend on going out, hobbies, etc. – and I try to save a little every week.

• I often run out of money, so I have to borrow. I don’t see the point of saving.

• I try not to overspend, but I don’t really budget. Sometimes I save a little.

Are you environment-friendly at home?

• Yes. I always switch off the lights when I leave a room. I also try to save water and to separate rubbish.

• I usually remember to switch off the lights. But I like to take long showers.

• Not really. Heating, water and electricity are cheap, aren’t they?

Are you looking forward to living with other people?

• I’ve never really thought about it. I think I’ll miss home.

• Yippee! I can’t wait. It’ll be party, party, party!

• Yes, but we’ll have to plan well, share the chores, etc.

Are you a responsible student?

• I’m quite responsible. I do my school work, but I sometimes go to bed very late, especially at weekends.

• I think I am. I work hard at school and I don’t stay out late in term time.

• Well ... I like to go out a lot and to do things with my friends, even in the week. I do my school work when I have time.

If you lost your bus ticket, what would you do?

• I’d get it replaced or buy another one.

• I’d walk home and get my bike.

• I’d panic and then phone home for help.

Are you good at making decisions?

• I usually do the same thing as my friends.

• Most of the time. But sometimes I can’t make up my mind.

• Yes, but I sometimes get advice.
