Test 9 (Lessons 21, 22, 23)

God sent Samuel to tell king Saul to destroy the Amelekites. Because Saul did not destroy all of the Amelekites, what did God do?

• God rejected Saul from being king of Israel.

• God allowed the Amelekites to conquer Israel.

• God destroyed Israel with a plague.

• God destroyed the world.

Since Saul disobeyed God, and he did not destroy the Amelekites, God told Samuel to anoint a new king over Israel. Samuel went to Bethlehem. Who did God tell Samuel to talk to?

• Jessie the father of David.

• Kish the father of Saul.

• Judah the father of Perez.

• Solomon the father of Uriah.

Samuel met with Jessie, and he asked Jessie to see his sons. While Samuel was praying over Jessie’s first son Eliab, he thought, “Surely this is the one God has anointed king over Israel.” But what did God tell Samuel?

• "Man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart."

• "Man looks at Mr. Gentry, but God looks on Mr. Jencks."

• "Man looks on the heart, but God looks at the outward appearance."

• "Man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at his good works."

Samuel said to Jessie, "Are all of your sons here?" And Jessie replied, "There is still one more, but he is the youngest, and he is keeping the sheep."  Samuel said, "Send for him." David came to Samuel, and what did Samuel do?

• Samuel anointed him with oil in front of his brothers.

• The Holy Spirit came upon David from that day forward.

• Samuel went to Ramah.

• Samuel chose Eliab as the next king of Israel.

David was very skilled at playing the lyre which is a type of harp. He would often play the lyre while he watched the sheep. How did he start playing the lyre for king Saul?

• King Saul was being tormented by evil spirits, so he asked his men to find someone who was skilled at playing the lyre.

• David walked into the throne room of Saul and announced his amazing skills at playing the lyre. Saul appointed David as worship leader of the royal band.

• David would often play the lyre in the city square of Jerusalem, and Saul heard him playing so, he appointed David as his personal lyre.

• David was in a band, and he would play in concerts. One day during a royal concert, Saul heard David playing, and he appointed David as his personal musician.

When the Philistines went to battle with Saul and the Israelites, they chose one warrior to fight from each side. The Philistines chose Goliath, but the Israelites were afraid to fight against him. Why were they afraid?

• Goliath was a giant who was 9ft and 6inches tall. He mocked the Israelites, and he made fun of the LORD God. Goliath was a trained warrior from childhood.

• The Philistines had just captured the ark of the covenant, and the Israelites thought that God was not with them anymore, so they did not want to fight against Goliath.

• The Philistines brought their idol Dagon to the battle field, and the Israelites said, "How can we fight against a god?"

• The Israelites forgot to bring the ark of the covenant to the battle field, so they did not know if God would bless them and help them defeat the Philistines.

When David volunteered to fight against the giant Goliath, how did his brother Eliab feel?

• He was angry at David, and he accused David of coming only to watch the battle.

• He encouraged David to fight against Goliath, and Eliab brought David to talk with king Saul.

• He felt sad because he was too scared to fight against Goliath.

• Eliab was hungry because he could smell the bread and cheese that David brought from his dad.

Goliath told David, “Am I a dog that you come to fight me with sticks? Come to me and I will feed you to the birds." Why did Goliath say this?

• Goliath had armor, a spear, a sword, and a shield. But David didn't have any armor. He had only 5 stones, a sling, and a shepherd's staff.

• Goliath was so tall compared to David. Goliath was telling David that he is like a dog compared to him, and he wanted to grind him up into bird food.

• Goliath saw that David was caring a spear, and Goliath thought the spear was tiny, so he said, "Do you come to fight me with sticks?"

• Goliath was confident that David would be the best bird food in the world. He wanted to test his theory by getting some of David's hair to feed it to the birds.

Saul's son Jonathan immediately became friends with David after the battle with Goliath. What did Jonathan do when he introduced himself after the battle?

• Jonathan made a covenant with David. He gave him his robe, his armor, his sword, his bow, and even his belt.

• Jonathan gave David his birth right, so that when Saul dies, David could become the new king of Israel.

• Jonathan made a promise to David. He gave David a house, a horse, a chariot, and a spear.

• Jonathan gave David his right to be king, so that when he dies, David could take his place and serve as the king of Israel.

Saul tries to kill David many times. He asked David to play the harp for him because of the evil spirits that tormented him. What did Saul do?

• While David was playing the harp, Saul tried to throw a spear at David and kill him.

• While David was playing the harp, Saul tried to use his sword to kill David.

• While David was playing the harp, Saul tried to use a sling to hit David in the head with a stone to kill him.
