What is an upstander?

• Someone who acts to protect and defend others

• Someone who walks by and watches

• Someone who calls the police to protect others

What is the bystander effect/bystander apathy?

• The theory that people will offer help if there are multiple people around

• The theory that people will grow up to be apathetic to others

• 
• The theory that people will not offer help if there are multiple people around

What is the first thing you do when you notice an unsafe situation?

• Act- you never know what could happen

• Run away- it's not your business anyways

• Assess your own safety- you can't help others if you're in danger too

• Saying no- we have a right to say no

What's the most effective way to get a harasser to back down?

• Acting to protect the victim

• Reporting the harasser to authorities

• Filming the incident to have proof

• Stand in between them and start singing

One de-escalation tool is-

• Bite them

• Saying "no"

• Use their proper pronouns

• Win to lose- you will overtake them

If possible, how should you distract from the situation?

• Bring as much attention to what they are doing as possible

• Scream loudly

• Do a little dance

• Mention little about the situation at hand, such as asking for directions

• "Excuse me, could you tell me where the nearest bakery is?"

• "I feel uncomfortable approaching that situation, could you call for help or intervene?"
