TEXT TYPES

A factual text - type that clearly defines a subject and groups things or ideas into specific categories.

• Classification text-type

Is a piece of writing that you read or create, and it is done for a number of  different purposes using different forms and standards of composition.

Is a non-fiction type of text that tells us how or why things or events work  or happen. It goes beyond simple ‘description’ in that they include information about causes,  motives or reasons.

This a statement that summarizes the explanation.

This is a series of statements or details that describe and explain  “how or “why” certain things happen.

This is a general statement identifying the topic to be explained. It lets the  reader know what the rest of the paragraph will be about.

A process or how-to text gives explanations or directions. Each sentence tells the  next step in carrying out a process in getting from one place to another.  Transitional/signal words that may be used to show order of steps include first, second, third, then, before, after, during, meanwhile, etc.
