Gilgamesh Book 11 Part 2

As a test to achieve immortality, Utnapisthim asks Gilgamesh to:

• Stay awake for seven days

• Dream for seven days

• Go without eating for seven days

• Not see anyone or talk to anyone for seven day

After Gilgamesh accepts the challenge,

• he falls asleep immediately and fails right away

• he almost finishes his challenge, but fails at the last minute

• he struggles with the challenges but ultimately succeeds

• he gives up and decides to go back to Uruk

Utnapishtim's wife wants to send Gilgamesh home becuase she feels sorry for him, but Utnapisthim

• wants to create proof Gilgamesh slept because he knows Gilgamesh will lie

• wants Gilgamesh to find immortality so he gives him another challenge

• wants Gilgamesh to find Enkidu so he helps him find Shamash

• wants Gilgamesh to return home as well, just at a later time

In order to prove Gilgamesh was sleeping the whole time, Utnapisthim's wife

• braided Gilgamesh's hair everyday

• baked bread for Gilgamesh everyday

• gave hm a tattoo everyday

• made a bowl of soup for him everyday

After Gilgamesh wakes, Utnapishtim asks Urshanabi the boatman to

• help Gilgamesh wash and return back to Uruk looking like a King

• help Gilgamesh find the tavern keeper to let him find the gods

• Help Gilgamesh cross the land of the dead to find Enkidu

• help Gilgamesh return back to the forest Enkidu grew up

Before Gilgamesh leaves, Utnapishtim

• tells him about the secret plant that will make him young

• gives him a book that will tell him the secrets of death

• brings him to Enkidu

• asks him to write down his story

Gilgamesh finds the plant but

• wants to bring the plant to try it on an old person in uruk first

• wants to try it with his lover

• wants Enkidu to eat it so he can come back to life

• wants Utnapishtim to try it first

Before Gilgamesh can eat the plant

• A snake eats it

• A bull eats it

• a bird eats it

• Gilgamesh lost it in the bush
