How many and powerful are the "twelve legions of angels"? (Matthew 26:53)

3,826 x 12 =

3,000 x 12 =

6,826 x 12

6,000 x 12

Answer explanation

According to W. Graham Scroggie, in the time of Roman Emperor Augustus (63 B.C.-14 A.D.), the "legion" of the Roman army was equivalent to 6,826 people (A Guide to the Gospels, 1995, p. 660). 2 Kings 19:35 records that "one" angel or angel ('angel', the original text is singular) of Yahweh can kill 185,000 people in the Assyrian camp in one night . So we can calculate as follows:

(a) Twelve legions of angels: 6,826 x 12 = 81,912 angels

(b) Number of people that can be killed: 81,912 x 185,000 = 1.51537210 (ie 15.1 billion people)

The population of the whole world is only 6 billion people in the present (2000), and of course it was less in the time of the Lord Jesus. Therefore, if the Lord Jesus sent twelve legions of angels to rescue them, their power would not only be powerful enough to kill the whole world at that time All the armies of the world, and even all the people of the world.
