Salvius discovers the plot

cum Quīntus et Dumnorix ad ultimās partēs īnsulae

contenderent,

• with Quintus and Dumnorix hurrying to the far reaches of the island

 mīlitēs Dumnorigem per oppidum frūstrā

quaerēbant.

• Dumnorix was asking soldiers in vain throughout the town

• the soldiers were searching through the town in vain for Dumnorix

• We sought Dumnorix vainly with the soldiers in town

 rem dēnique Salviō nūntiāvērunt.

• Then the situation was announced by Salvius

• At last, Salvius announced the situation

• Finally, they (the soldiers) announced the situation to Salvius

 ille, cum dē fugā

Dumnorigis cognōvisset, vehementer saeviēbat.

• he (Salvius) was violently enraged when he had found out about the escape of Dumnorix

• he (Dumnorix)when he found out about escaping, vehemently agreed

• those (soldiers) when they had discovered the escape of Dumnox were violently angry

tum Quīntum

 quaesīvit; cum eum quoque nusquam invenīre potuisset,

• They had been able to search for Quintus, but not to find him anywhere

• then Quintus went searching; although he also was nowhere able to find him

• then he sought Quintus; because he had also not been able to find him anywhere

Belimicum, prīncipem Canticōrum, arcessīvit.

• Bellimicum summoned the leaders of the Cantici

• he summoned Bellimicus, the leader of the Cantici

• Bellimicum, the leader for the Cantiocorum, was summoned

iste Dumnorix ē manibus meīs effūgit;

• he helped Dumnorix escape me with (his own) hands

• that (darn) Dumnorix escaped out of my hands

• they helped Dumnorix escape from my hands

abest quoque Quīntus Caecilius.

• Quintus is also a son of Caecillius

• Quintus Caecillius is also absent

• Quintus has fled Caecillius also

Quīntō crēdō.

• neither Dumnorix or Quintus can be believed

• either Quintus or Dumnorix is not believed

• I believe neither Dumnorix nor Quintus

• go now; take the soldiers with you

• I go now with the leader, (and) his soldiers
