STAAR Test taking strategies review

The night before STAAR I should

• Stay up late

• watch a scary movie with my brother or sister

• go to bed a little earlier than normal

• stay up worrying about the test all night

How should I read each test question?

• once and then pick the best answer

• once to see what it says, once to highlight or underline and once more time to understand what it is asking me

• twice to make sure I read it right the first time

• I can just look for the numbers and pick an answer that looks good

If I do not know the answer to a question I should

• stare at it until the answer comes to me

• use the process of elimination, cross off answers I know are incorrect

• take a guess and mark a random answer

• work the problem and pick the answer that is closest to mine
