How do you start up a computer?

• Wait until the different icons appear on the screen and the hourglass disappears.

• Insert the power plug into the socket. Press the ON / OFF switch on the computer and enter a password.

• Command the computer to turn on for itself.

What is the desktop?

• The back of the computer.

• The front of the monitor which is called the screen and the coloured or visible image area where work is presented.

• The area where you strike keys to input information.

• The entire computer system.

What do you see when a computer is switched on?

• You may see the answers to a test.

• You may see windows and icons.

• You may see menus and dialog boxes.

• You may see your parents.

Why do you use the desktop?

• You use the desktop to look at your face.

• You use the desktop to access drives, and files.

• You use the desktop to navigate the internet

• You use the desktop to access other resources such as Recycle Bin, Internet Explorer and My Documents.

What are Icons?

• Icons are famous persons in the world.

• Icons are big pictures on the desktop that are used for the visually impaired.

• Icons ars small pictures on the desktop representing applications, documents, directories, files or groups eg. My Computer, Recycle Bin etc.

What is a Wait Icon?

• It is the dialog box that warns you that you have low internet connectivity.

• It is a waiting list App.

• The icon appears as an hourglass on the desktop to signify that an application or program is not responding or the CPU is working on an application and is not ready to process another application at the moment.

• It appears when your computer is crashing.

What is software?

• Software are the components from which the computer system is built to perform work.

• Software is when applications are becoming outdated and obsolete.
