This quiz & guideline is designed to help students review core knowledge in ABRSM online music theory Grade 5 exam, suitable for final revision.

In order to pass the exam, please make sure your recent mark on practice papers is 60 or above. If your score is fluctuating a lot, or simply 50+(a few more scores than passing mark 50), you have to consider whether it is a suitable time to take the formal exam.

Some of these questions may need to use a pencil, blank sheet music, and piano. You may give answers by taking photos on your sheet music notebook/record your playing on the piano, and send me on WeChat or email, if it is needed. Let's start the first section, Rhythm. This section is focusing on the meaning of time signature, and more importantly, the correct way to group notes. You are suggested to remember the right rhythm pattern for each time signature, as these patterns indicate correct rhythmic grouping. In the exam, all your grouping/beaming of notes are trying to demonstrate these patterns as clearly as possible.

Besides these patterns, you will be asked about the duplet, triplet, double dotted note, breve and its rest, and irregular note grouping of 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, and 11.

Please draw the rhythm division for 2/2, 2/4, and 2/8. For instance, 2/2 means there are two minims in one bar, you just draw it below on the whiteboard.
