Reading Comprehension
Last summer, I spent a lot of time at Herman Library. The librarian is called Miss Franny. She is a very small, very old woman with short gray hair. I was new in town. She was the first friend I made there. This is the story of how Miss Franny and I became friends.
One day, I left my dog outside the library. It stood on its hind legs and looked at me through the window. Miss Herman saw it. She was very scared. I told her:” This is just a dog! Don’t be scared”. She said: “I thought it was a bear. When I was a young girl, I was reading in the library. Then, I smelt a very peculiar smell. I looked up and I saw a bear! A huge, brown bear came into the library! I screamed at it. I threw my book at it. The bear took the book and left. I told my friends what happened. They were surprised. Now everyone I have known when I was young is dead. Sometimes, I feel lonely.”
I liked Miss Franny’s story. I felt that Miss Franny and I can become good friends. We were both feeling lonely. We both loved books. She told me that my dog could come into the library with me. My dog is a lovely dog with a large heart.
