What are the three main factors to consider when defining tourism?

• Distance travelled, Length of visit, Purpose of visit

• Type of transportation, Duration of stay, Type of accommodation

• Number of attractions visited, Cost of travel, Weather conditions

• Language spoken, Currency used, Local customs

How is tourism defined?

• The permanent relocation of people to different countries for any purpose.

• Tourism is the temporary short-term movement of people to destinations outside the places where they normally live and work, and activities during their stay at these destinations;  it includes movement for all purposes (business, leisure and VFR) as well as day visits or excursions

• The exploration of natural landscapes and wildlife and the study of different cultures and traditions within these landscapes.

• A stay of one or more nights away from home for holidays, visits to​ friends or relatives (VFR), business / conference trips and other purposes except activities such as boarding/higher education or semi-permanent employment.

What is inbound tourism?

• Tourists leaving their country of origin to travel to another country

• Tourists entering another country from their own country of residence

• Tourists traveling within their own country for leisure purposes

• Tourists making day trips for leisure purposes without overnight stays

What is outbound tourism?

• Tourists leaving their country of origin to travel to another country

What is domestic tourism?

• Tourism that involves the crossing of international borders

• Tourism within a country by people who live in that country

• A tourist who stays for one or more nights away from home
