What is close reading?

• The subject of a talk, a piece of writing, a person's thoughts, or an exhibition; a topic.

• The idea of a paragraph is the author's message about the topic. It is often expressed directly or it can be implied.

• When the reader is paying close attention to a text, reading it carefully, and looking at the details of the text in order to understand its meaning.

• A conclusion reached on the basis of evidence and reasoning.
