Flat Character

• a minor character in a work of fiction defined by one character trait

Round Character

Conflict

• a struggle between two opposing forces

• A character is any person, animal, or figure represented in a literary work.

• The climax is the most suspenseful moment in the story, or the turning point in the conflict.

• The resolution occurs at the end of the story. It provides insight as to what happens to the characters when the conflict is resolved.

Internal Conflict

• a struggle between a character and an outside force

• a struggle a character has within themselves over opposing needs, desires, decisions, or emotions

• The theme is the underlying message of the story. Themes are universal statements and are used to drive the plot. 

• The tone is the author's attitude toward a certain topic.

External Conflict

• a struggle between a character and an outside force

• introduces the characters, describes the setting and establishes the problem in the story.

Man vs. Man

• a character has a conflict or problem with some element of society - the school, the law, etc.
