In order to free his wife, Proctor drags in—

Abigail and Mercy Lewis had both—

• been arrested for thievery

• taken to Boston

Judge Danforth refuses to postpone the hangings because—

• He wishes to finish off the remaining accused and go home

• He can't because he was ordered by the government

• He has already hung 12 people for the same crime

• He wishes to see them all hang

Judge Danforth promises John that Elizabeth—

• Is safe and alive

• Will not be hanged until her baby is born a year from then

• Will be hanged as soon as possible

After arriving in court, John and the others try to—
