When I woke up, I went to help her begin the casseroles and the appetizers. Finally, the rest of the family arrived, and we all began to eat.

This year's Thanksgiving was very different from normal. Normally, everyone gathers at my mom's house and we all eat lunch together. This year, however, my sister had Thanksgiving lunch with her fiance's family, so we had to move all of our plans to dinner time. Mom still woke up early to cook the turkey, everyone else still brought the side dishes, but it was weird not to be watching the Macy's Parade while we cooked like we normally do.

On the week of Thanksgiving, my mom makes her grocery list 3 days ahead of time. She goes shopping two days early to make sure that she gets everything that she needs and is able to beat the crowd. This year, however, she somehow forgot to buy the most important part of the meal: the turkey.

She sent me to the store to try and find her a turkey the day before Thanksgiving, but HEB was all sold out. I drove to Tom Thumb, but they were gone there, too. I drove to Kroger AND Wal-Mart before finally trying Whole Foods. The turkey there was $20 more expensive than it should have been, but finally, we had a turkey for Thanksgiving Dinner.

In America, Thanksgiving is a holiday where people come together with their friends and families to celebrate what they are grateful for. Typically, people will serve a big feast on this day, to remember the days of Fall harvest in our farming history. This feast usually includes: roast turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, various casseroles, bread, and pie. There are many variations of how people celebrate this holiday, but it is always centered around being thankful for what you have.

This year, for the first time ever, my sister was allowed to cook the turkey for our Thanksgiving Day dinner. As excited as she was, she had never cooked a turkey before. She found a recipe online that looked good, but did not realize it was for a 4 pound turkey, instead of a 10 pound one. As a result of this, the turkey came out of the oven very dry, cracked, and burnt on the outside, but still cold on the inside. We ended up having to go to Denny's to get turkey from them, because she ruined ours.
