Musical Vocabulary

The main division of a musical, often divided into Act I and Act II.

An orchestral piece at the beginning of a musical that introduces themes from the show.

A musical piece with lyrics and melody that advances the plot or reveals character emotions.

The dance movements and sequences performed by the dancers.

The clothing worn by actors and dancers in a production.

1. The character or force in opposition to the protagonist.

The way characters change or evolve throughout the musical.

The musicians who play the music for the musical, typically located in a sunken area (the "pit") in front of the stage.
