atlas of 12 charts which are

compiled using average conditions over a single

month of any given year.

estimated or calculated based on the isobars.

These are possibly the most important weather

tools for long distance cruising at sea. They are

entirely based on mathematical/numerical

models. These models are the basis for all modern

forecasting.

A preliminary routing message is transmitted to

the master of a vessel prior to departure with a

detailed forecast of expected storm tracks, an

initial route proposal with reasoning behind the

recommendation and also the expected weather

conditions to be encountered along that route or

any alternate routes.
