The Pathways of Respiratory System:

• Trachea

• Nasopharynx, Oropharynx, Laryngopharynx

• Bronchioles

• Bronchi/Bronchus

• Alveoli

Type 1 alveolar

• Make up alveolar wall.

• Release lipoprotein (surfactant)

• Reduces surface tension

Type 2 alveolar

• Make up alveolar wall.

• Release lipoprotein (surfactant)

• Reduces surface tension

Tough, protective double membrane each lung have pleura and pleural fluid.

Gas Exchange & Ventilation Regulation:

• CO2 -> O2

• O2 blood enter lung via pulmonary venues & back to left atrium (heart).

• Blood flow to left ventricle to body circulation.

• Pulmonary arterioles carry CO2 rich blood from the right atrium.

• Blood enters capillary beds surrounding the alveoli.

The area between 2 lungs.

What happened during inhalation?
