What happened before the immigrants were able to disembark? Doctors came on board to check for dangerous diseases.

The immigrants who cleared the medical inspection went on to a legal inspection.

Only 2% of the immigrants were deported.

If the answers did not match the reports, they would be detained and could stay on Ellis Island for months.

After being processed, immigrants would walk down three aisles according to their destination (detention, going west/ south, going North/ NYC)
