Basic Education Research Fund (BERF) is a financial grant provided by the Department of Education to support education research in aid of evidence-based policy formulation.

Research proposal and other related research initiatives from the schools are being evaluated and approved in the Regional Level by the Regional Research Committee (RRC).

For BERF-funded research, the National and regional Research Committees will spearhead the periodic call for research proposals at least thrice a year.

Evaluation of proposals involves 2 phases.

For the proposal to qualify for approval, the proponent must have a minimum score of 60% in the evaluation.

With full support of school heads, teachers will disseminate and utilize their research through existing mechanisms such as, but not limited to: LAC, INSET, SGC, ESIP/SIP, SRC.

Research studies from schools can be given BERF grant with a maximum amount of not more than 30,000 per research.

Research studies from schools are given a maximum of 3 months duration.

Only regular/permanent teaching personnel in the schools can be eligible to become proponents.

There is maximum of 5 research team members for group proposals.
