Define anatomy and physiology.

Describe the human body’s levels of organization and give an example of each.

Name each organ system of the body and state one general function of each. (You should already be able to think of a general function for each organ system without any memorizing).

Describe the body positions: supine, prone and anatomical position. What is the purpose of anatomical position?

Distinguish the anatomical directions: superior vs. inferior, anterior vs. posterior, ventral vs. dorsal, medial vs. lateral, proximal vs. distal, and superficial vs. deep. Be able to use these terms in a sentence.

Describe the three main planes or sections. Define midsagittal plane. What is an oblique plane?

What are the subdivisions of the dorsal cavity? Which structures are found in these subdivisions?

What are all of the subdivisions of the ventral cavity? Which structures are found in these subdivisions? What structure divides the thoracic and abdominopelvic cavities?

Know all four abdominopelvic quadrants and the three medial abdominopelvic regions (you only need to know these three of the nine abdominopelvic regions).

Know two names for each of the body regions on Fig 1-9 as in the homework (Ex: brachial region & arm). Know the differences between upper extremity, arm, and forearm as well as lower extremity, thigh and leg.
