and it came to pass that i nephi said unto my father i will go and do the things which the lord hath commanded for i know that the lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men save he shall away for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them

adam fell that men might be and men are that they might have joy

wherefore men are free according to the flesh and all things are given them which are expedient unto man and they are free to choose liberty and eternal life through the great mediator of all men or to choose captivity and death according to the captivity and power of the devil for he seeketh that all men might be miserable like unto himself

for none of these iniquities come of the lord for he doeth that which is good among the children of men and he doeth nothing save it be plain unto the children of men and he inviteth them all to come unto him and partake of his goodness and he denieth none that come unto him black and white bond and free male and female and he remembereth the heathen and all are alike unto god both jew and gentile

for behold thus saith the lord god i will give unto the children of men line upon line precept upon precept here a little and there a little and blessed are those who hearken unto my precepts and lend an ear unto my counsel for they shall learn wisdom for unto him that receiveth i will give more and from them that shall say we have enough from them shall be taken away even that which they have

angels speak by the power of the holy ghost wherefore they speak the words of christ wherefore i said unto you feast upon the words of christ for behold the word of christ will tell you all things what ye should do

and now my beloved brethren i perceive that ye ponder still in your hearts and it grieveth me that i must speak concerning this thing for if ye would hearken unto the spirit which teacheth a man to pray ye would know that ye must pray for the evil spirit teacheth not a man to pray but teacheth him that he must not pray but behold i say unto you that ye must pray always and not faint that ye must not perform any thing unto the lord save in the first place ye shall pray unto the father in the name of christ that he will consecrate thy performance unto thee that thy performance may be the welfare of thy soul

and behold i tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your god

and moreover i would desire that ye should consider on the blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of god for behold they are blessed in all things both temporal and spiritual and if they hold out faithful to the end they are received into heaven that thereby they may dwell with god in a state of never ending happiness o remember that these things are true for the lord god hath spoken it

for the natural man is an enemy to god and has been from the fall of adam and will be forever and ever unless he yields to the enticings of the holy spirit and putteth off the natural man and becometh a saint through the atonement of christ the lord and becometh as a child submissive meek humble patient full of love willing to submit to all things which the lord seeth fit to inflict upon him even as a child doth submit to his father

believe i god believe that he is and that he created all things both in heaven and in earth believe that he has all wisdom and all power both in heaven and in earth believe that man doth not comprehend all things which the lord can comprehend

be baptized in the name of the lord as a witness that ye have entered into a covenant with him
