Why did the Founders create a weak national government?

• To allow for more people to not fear for a strong government and over-power

• They wanted to make sure their leader had FULL power

• It had no money and couldn’t tax, it couldn’t raise an army, it had no president or courts, and it couldn’t unite the states.

• Brought all the states together and raised a national army

Why was Shays' Rebellion important?

• Daniel Shays rose a force of farmers to shut down the Massachusetts government and get weapons. It proved the national government was too weak.

• Daniel Shays was a British solider who wanted to win back his land for England

What did the Northwest Ordinance of 1787 require of new states?

• It required them to set up a government
