Rosa Parks was a woman who stood up for what she believed in. She is known as “the mother of the freedom movement.”

Parks was born on February 4, 1913 in the state of Alabama. She was a seamstress and also worked for a local civil rights group that fought against the unfair treatment of African Americans.

She is most famous for not giving up her seat on the bus on December 1, 1955. At the time, there was an unfair law that said that black people were not allowed to sit in the front of the bus. When a white person asked her to give up her seat, Rosa Parks refused and she was arrested. Many people were angry that she went to jail. They decided to join the Montgomery bus boycott, where people refused to ride the bus in protest. The boycott led the Supreme Court to rule that everyone should have equal rights when riding the bus.

Our country gave Rosa Parks many honors and awards for her bravery, including the Medal of Freedom Award.
